Summary

On March 28, 1955, and around that time, many reports of unidentified flying objects came from widely scattered places in Iran. Reports came from the Persian Gulf area, Tehran, Gorgan, and Tabriz. The sources were civilian and military.

No clear details on shape or features could be obtained, and observer descriptions varied widely. The most significant report came from Tabriz, where one object was recovered. United States Air Force advisory officers identified the recovered object as a type of balloon used to drop Crusade for Freedom leaflets. Other reports from the area appeared to be these same leaflet balloons.

In Project 10073, the Air Force's official record system for unidentified flying object reports, this case was marked as a balloon, with a note that the other information was too limited for analysis.
