Summary

On April 23, 1954, at dusk, around 8:00 p.m., in Hartland, Maine, a civilian reported one object for about 15 minutes. It was oblong, large, and silver, with a dome on top and a flashing light inside. The object made no sound and gave off no exhaust. It hung on the horizon, then disappeared straight up. The civilian reported it to a ground observer post. Two F-86 jets were scrambled and searched the area for about 30 minutes with no results. The Air Force noted it as a possible sundog and possibly the same kind of sighting reported the same day in Pittsfield, Maine. The official conclusion was unidentified.
