Summary

On August 7, 1956, a civilian in Gower, Missouri reported observing one large, plane-shaped object. The object was red or orange in color and resembled a large aircraft approximately 10,000 feet in altitude. The object moved with great maneuverability and speed. Its flight path varied in all directions. The object stopped at times and sped up at other times. It was observed visually for twenty-three minutes and then left the area of observation with a tremendous burst. A halo effect remained after the object disappeared. On the basis that object was observed overhead at 0325 hours with erratic movements - possibly balloon. Winds not given. Disappearance and halo attributed to balloon burst.
