Summary

On January 11, 1961, at 1930 (7:30 p.m.), a military observer at Fairborn, Ohio reported a bright object. It was seen at about 45 degrees elevation in the southeast.

A duty officer reported that a major had seen the bright object over a nearby housing area. The flight officer of the day said he thought the object was the planet Venus, which that night appeared in the southeast at over 45 degrees elevation.

The Air Force conclusion was probably astronomical, identified as the planet Venus.
