Summary
# Detroit UFO Sighting, 1963
In March or April 1966, a resident of Detroit wrote to the Air Force about a UFO he had witnessed in Chicago in 1963. The writer said he, his father, brother, and cousin had all seen the object while he was living in the Chicago area. He described it as a craft with a square shape and brightly lit square portholes. The object was moving fast and making sharp turns. After returning home to Oak Park, a suburb of Detroit, the writer's cousin also reported seeing the same UFO flying over her house.
The writer expressed his belief that the object was not a natural phenomenon like marsh gas or a known aircraft type. He suggested it might be an extraterrestrial craft or a secret U.S. government project. He also urged the Air Force to release information about UFO sightings gradually to avoid public panic, and he asked for educational materials about the subject.
The Air Force received the report much later than the actual sighting had occurred. The case file notes that the time lag between the event and the report, combined with the years that had passed, made the information unreliable and difficult to verify.
