Project Blue Book Case File
Monroe, MichiganJune 1949
Summary
On June 21, 1949, at about 0924 (9:24 a.m.), a civilian reported seeing an object directly over Monroe, Michigan. The witness made the report, and a similar report came from a local newspaper reporter on June 23. The Air Force conclusion was "insufficient data." The report became part of Project 10073, the Air Force's official record for unidentified flying object reports.
The witness said the object was disc-like, shaped like a top with a heavy center section. He said it was flying among several Navy aircraft at about half a mile high. It traveled toward the southwest and disappeared within about two seconds.
The witness said a vapor disturbance could be seen whirling from the outer edge as it moved. He suggested it might have been a new type of ram jet machine. He noted that a newspaper item was printed by reporters who also saw it.
