Summary

On August 9, 1959, near Columbus, Ohio, a man reported an object in the sky. The witness was a civilian. The sighting was reported through the Air Force's unidentified flying object record system.

The observer described one red object about the size of a small plane, seen to the west and moving farther west. There was no sound. A flame appeared at one end of the object and tapered to a V shape. The object was climbing and was lost in clouds. The man watched it for about 30 seconds and called his wife, and both watched for another 20 to 30 seconds.

The Air Force requested more information but received no reply to its messages. The record card listed the case as insufficient data.
