Insufficient Data

Summary

On about May 22, 1955, a civilian in the Clearfield, Pennsylvania area reported a single object. It appeared about 50 miles east of an observer post and was watched for roughly two hours. The night was clear with unlimited visibility.

The object was shapeless and changed color from red to white to red. It was about the size of a star at a distance. It seemed to flicker up and down but stayed in the east. It finally disappeared into dense fog. The observer reported that two aircraft passed near the object at different times and that radar did not pick them up.

The Air Force record notes that the preliminary report held contradictory statements. Because of this, officials said analysis and evaluation were impossible.
