Summary
On September 29, 1962, a 17-year-old civilian in Brooklyn, New York, reported an object in the night sky. The time was about 0030Z. It was at about 2,000 feet, moving west at about 5 to 18 mph.
The witness described a large cylindrical object the size of a large plane, with no wings, no exhaust, and no sound. It had flashing red and white lights on the ends and no tail. It flew in a horizontal path to the west.
The report was filed under Project 10073, the Air Force's official record for unidentified flying object reports. The Air Force noted the observation was at night, the duration was not reported, and the manner of flight was not clear. The flashing lights suggested a possible aircraft sighting.
