Project Blue Book Case File
Between Mockville & Arrity, N.C., March 1957March 1957
Summary
# Between Mockville and Arrity, North Carolina: March 1957
A truck driver in rural North Carolina saw a remarkable object in the night sky on March 8, 1957. According to the case file, the object was about 30 feet long with a round nose, gray-white in color, and glowed with a bright green light. The witness observed it from inside his truck window for roughly two minutes.
The object approached from the northwest and made a complete circular path before disappearing to the northeast. As it moved, the object descended from an altitude of 2,000 feet down to about 500 feet. No sound accompanied the sighting. The witness described a flame about 30 feet long coming from the object.
The Air Force evaluated this sighting but the case file shows limited investigation results. A note on page three indicates that weather data was unavailable because the report arrived three days late. The Operations Officer at the 668th Air Control Squadron, based in North Carolina, provided no additional comment. Without supporting evidence from radar, corroborating witnesses, or weather analysis, the investigation appears to have stalled. The Air Force's final determination is not clearly stated in the available records, though the case card notes the evaluation as "unknown."
