Summary

On June 11, 1957, at 10:53 a.m., two airmen at Benton Air Force Station in Pennsylvania witnessed a round object about the size of a small truck. The object was greenish yellow and white in color and was sparking from the rear. It traveled rapidly across the observers' line of sight at high speed, crossing the sky at 45 degrees between horizon and zenith at 500 feet altitude west of the base. The sighting lasted 3 seconds. The object descended rapidly and disappeared behind trees. The Duty Director concluded the probable cause was a meteorite, though this was not positively established.
