Summary

On May 13, 1961, a civilian saw two lights near Atmore, Alabama, in the early morning hours. One light went west to east and passed overhead around 6:10 a.m. (GMT). A similar light passed going northwest to southeast around 8:30 a.m. (GMT). The lights were brilliant white to bluish white.

After checking the witness's location, the Air Force found that he was near five airways used by military and civilian jet aircraft. The descriptions and directions of flight matched jets flying along those airways.

The Air Force concluded the reporting officer's view was probably correct, that the lights were jet aircraft. Such jets would be noticed from the witness's location mainly by the white fuselage light on the underside.
