Air visual sighting from Charleston W Va To Shaw AFB= S Carolina, December 1955December 1955

Insufficient Data

Summary

On December 15, 1955, a pilot and observer saw a strange object during a flight from Charleston, West Virginia, toward Shaw Air Force Base in South Carolina. The Greenwich time ran from 2343Z on December 15 to 0025Z on December 16. The observers were military.

The object looked like a star, about the size of a pea held at arm's length. It first appeared white. Its color then changed to bright red, followed by changes to blue green. It had a steady glow with no blinking. Bright red was the main color, and a corona effect was noted. The object kept pace with the aircraft and then disappeared to the southwest. The pilot said it reminded him of an aircraft with a large landing light. The sighting lasted about 43 minutes.

The card notes there was no separate case file and that follow up forms were requested. The case is filed under Project 10073, the Air Force's official record for unidentified flying object reports. The Air Force conclusion was INSUFFICIENT DATA FOR EVALUATION.
