Insufficient Data

Summary

On March 2, 1961, two adult civilian women reported a strange light about seven miles south of Minot, North Dakota. They saw it around 10:15 p.m. local time while driving home from Minot. The object was round, about the size of an auto headlight at half a mile. It was bright white and alternated to bright red, roughly as strong as a 200 watt bulb. There was one object. It seemed to move up and down with no forward motion and no clear sideways movement. It stayed in view about ten minutes at a distance of one half to four miles to the northwest. The sky was mostly clear with good visibility.

On Project 10073, the Air Force's official record for unidentified flying object reports, the Air Force noted the up and down motion was probably caused by the moving car. The object may have been a star or planet. The card listed insufficient data for a firm conclusion.
