On May 21, 1954, at 8:20 p.m., civilians reported a shining large object 50 miles southwest of Needles, California. The object was observed at an altitude of 18,000 to 20,000 feet. The sighting came from a radio report, and radar sites in the area were alerted but did not obtain a radar return. No photographs or physical evidence was collected. The observation was made from the ground and the object's course was not reported. The Air Force concluded the sighting was unidentified.
