3526N 14155E FAR EAST, May 1961May 1961
Summary
On May 15, 1961, the crew of a C-121 aircraft saw an object over the Pacific Ocean, near 35 degrees 28 minutes north and 141 degrees 55 minutes east, around 3:54 p.m. (GMT). The aircraft was heading about 128 degrees at 11,000 feet and was in the clear above a solid undercast.
The object left long blue white streaks and was bearing about 330 degrees relative to the aircraft. It did not look like a shooting star or meteor. It appeared to be a missile or other space vehicle burning up on reentry into the atmosphere, and looked extremely high and fast. No duration, direction, or speed of the object was given.
Because the report arrived late and there was little detail, the Air Force found insufficient data to form a valid conclusion. No follow up message was sent.
