Summary
On November 15, 1961, a military observer aboard an aircraft over the Pacific reported an object at about 1:27 a.m. (1327 Zulu). The position was near 36 degrees north, 173 degrees west. One object was seen. It was an extremely brilliant, falling object with an incandescent tail trailing about one mile. It was at about 45 degrees elevation. The object disappeared over the horizon to the southwest, on a bearing of about 245 degrees true. The Air Force noted the object was moving the wrong direction for a satellite reentry but had all the marks of a bolide. It listed the case as astronomical, a meteor.
