Summary

On October 17, 1961, a military observer at sea in the Pacific reported an object at about 1:13 a.m. (1213 Zulu). The position was given as 33 degrees north, 177 degrees west. One object was seen. Its size and speed were said to be like a meteor, and it was as bright as a lightning flash. It left a definite vapor trail that lasted about seven minutes. The object's course was to the north at about 35 degrees above the horizon. The report stated an evaluation of no threat. The Air Force listed the case as astronomical, a meteor.
