Summary
On November 9, 1961, a military observer aboard a ship in the Pacific reported an object at about 6:30 (0630 Zulu). The position was near 30 degrees north, 175 degrees east. The object was starlike, with the brightness of a second magnitude star. It was at medium altitude and headed northeast, crossing the sky parallel to the Milky Way. One object was seen. It was in sight for about 15 minutes and disappeared below the horizon. The Air Force compared the path and timing to the Echo I satellite, which would have crossed the equator and been visible to the observer at that time and place. It listed the case as Echo I.
