Summary

On December 31, 1955, two people saw a strange object about 25 miles west of Denver, Colorado, near Bergen Park. The Greenwich time was 1805Z. The observers were civilians.

The object was round, about the size of a matchhead held at arm's length, and was thought to be as large as a big bomber aircraft. The witnesses estimated it was at about 40,000 feet. It was silver, like the color of an aircraft. Their attention was drawn first by a jet passing overhead, and then they saw the object. It moved slowly at first, then seemed to gain speed. They estimated its speed ran from that of a jet up to about 1,000 miles per hour.

The two witnesses were interviewed by phone and were judged to be of doubtful reliability. They admitted the object could have been a high flying aircraft. The lack of a contrail and the gain in speed had convinced them at the time that it was not an aircraft.

The case is filed under Project 10073, the Air Force's official record for unidentified flying object reports. The Air Force conclusion was a possible aircraft.
