Summary
On July 30, 1961, Navy officers aboard the USS Lansing in the Pacific reported a light in the sky. The object was round, about the size of a pinhead, and as bright as a first magnitude star. It was white with no tail. It was first seen directly overhead and moved from west southwest to east northeast with no change in path. It stayed in sight for about 8 minutes before fading into clouds. The officers used binoculars. The Air Force card identifies the object as the satellite Echo I.
