Insufficient Data

Summary

On an October night in 1960, a witness at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base in Ohio reported seeing an unusual object moving through the sky. The object appeared to have a fire or glow coming from it, with a blue and yellow color. It moved at roughly the speed of a T-33 jet trainer and made no sound.

The witness described the object as having two distinct parts. The main body was roughly grapefruit-shaped. Behind it, a separate oblong tailpiece trailed along. As the object moved, the light in the tailpiece gradually faded out. The main body then became lost in the glow of lights from the nearby town of Fairborn. The entire sighting lasted only a few seconds.

An Air Force analyst called the witness for a follow-up interview. The witness could provide little additional information beyond what was already reported in the initial account. Because of the limited details available, the Air Force marked this case as having insufficient data for a definitive evaluation. The case file lists "unknown" as the final conclusion.

The complete case file, including witness questionnaire forms and investigative notes, spans 10 pages and is held by the National Archives on microfilm (T1206, Roll 40).
