Summary

On June 27, 1963, in daylight, a civilian reported an object near Von Ormy, Texas, about 2 miles north of the town. The witness worked at Kelly Air Force Base. The case was recorded in Project 10073, the Air Force's official record for unidentified flying object reports.

The object was round and looked like a star seen in bright daylight, about the size of a pinhead at arm's length. It was bright steady white. It was first seen about 80 degrees above the northern horizon and moved west, fading near the sun at about 60 degrees elevation. It was in sight for about 15 minutes. The observer used a four-power rifle scope but could not make out any detail. A radar squadron could not pick it up.

A later report identified the object as a weather balloon released by the U.S. Weather Bureau at San Antonio International Airport. The Air Force evaluated the case as a balloon.
