Summary
# San Antonio, Texas UFO Sighting, August 20, 1952
A woman sitting in her backyard in San Antonio on the evening of August 20, 1952, spotted an unusual object in the night sky. At around 9 p.m., while taking her dogs outside, she noticed a round, glowing object suspended in the air to the north. The object was bright yellowish and appeared to be about the size of a bicycle wheel. Lights inside or on the body of the object seemed to pulse or rotate in a circular pattern, though the center appeared dark.
For roughly five minutes, the woman watched as the object swayed back and forth like a pendulum, covering an area of ten to fifteen feet or more. She saw no wings, tail lights, exhaust, or propulsion system of any kind. The object's speed varied dramatically, sometimes hovering in place and at other times moving as fast as a jet fighter. She described conventional aircraft moving in ways she recognized, but this object did not behave like any airplane she had ever seen.
The object then suddenly shot upward and away to the northwest at high speed, gradually fading from view. She heard no sound and saw no trail behind it. The woman had worked as a civilian employee at Kelly Air Force Base for seven years and stated she was quite able to recognize ordinary aircraft. Fair weather conditions prevailed at the time, and no known meteorological or other activity existed that might have explained the sighting. No physical evidence was recovered, and no interception was attempted.
The Air Force's evaluation of this case was marked as unknown. The complete case file, comprising 23 pages, is reproduced below as held by the National Archives.
