Summary

On June 20, 1957, in Vandalia, Ohio, an observer reported a round object slowly climbing northward to ATIC Command Post. The sighting was confirmed by a local U.S. weather bureau station. A woman reported seeing a balloon just north of Vandalia field moving slowly north with no other information obtained. ATIC released a balloon at 1:30 p.m. that slowly drifted north. According to Major R.C. Connair Jr., USAF Adjutant, the observation seems to be the probable explanation. The Air Force evaluation was Probably Balloon.
