Project Blue Book Case File
Tinker AFB, Oklahoma City, Okla., September 1950September 1950
Summary
On September 18, 1950, about 9:52 p.m. local time, a military weather sergeant reported an unidentified object over Tinker Air Force Base and Midwest City, Oklahoma. The report is part of Project 10073, the Air Force's official record for unidentified flying object reports.
The object looked like an elliptical area of amber colored light, about 25 feet across, without clearly defined edges. When first seen it was about 3,000 to 4,000 feet over the base, moving northwest at an estimated 300 to 400 miles per hour. As it passed overhead it made jerky sideways movements. It was watched for about three minutes and seemed to climb to about 10,000 feet. Skies were clear, and a check the next morning found no local aircraft aloft at that time.
The file also includes a separate sighting at Roswell, New Mexico, the night before, when a guard and other airmen saw a bluish white circular object.
