Project Blue Book Case File
Muster, TexasJune 1953
Summary
On June 4, 1953, about 2305 (11:05 p.m.) Central time, a civilian saw objects over Muenster, Texas, about 30 miles west of Gainesville. The witness was an aircraft engine mechanic who called Tinker Air Force Base.
He reported three star-like objects with glowing tails traveling south. One made a wide 180 degree turn and headed north, while the other two continued south. He estimated their speed at about 2,000 miles per hour and their height at about 60,000 feet. The flight was straight and level except for the one turn. No sound was heard, and the sighting lasted two or three minutes.
Weather was clear with about 15 mile per hour wind. The witness was described as conscientious and reliable. A pilot balloon had been released from Fort Worth at 2143 Central time, and calculations placed it in the area of the sighting around that time. The Air Force listed the case as aircraft, noting the contract astronomer felt the objects were jet aircraft and that the reported speed and height did not fit each other.
