Summary

On October 6, 1961, at around 4:30 p.m., a witness at a soccer game in Sharon, Massachusetts, looked up at the sky and saw five silver-white objects. The witness said the objects had sharply outlined edges and appeared to stand still at times before rushing away. They always stayed in formation and moved toward the west. The entire sighting lasted about one minute.

The witness was outside during daylight and reported that fog, mist, or light rain was present at the time. Looking south initially, then south-southwest as the objects moved, the witness saw them roughly 30 degrees above the horizon at first and about 51 degrees above the horizon when they disappeared. The objects vanished so quickly the witness could barely notice them disappearing.

When asked what the objects might have been, the witness suggested they could possibly be a flying saucer or a spacecraft from another planet, though they acknowledged uncertainty. The witness also reported having seen unusual lights near an airplane on a previous occasion. According to the questionnaire, at least one other person at the soccer game saw the objects too.

The Air Force's evaluation of this case, as noted on the cover sheet, listed the conclusion as "Unknown," though the file indicates that atmospheric refraction of light from unknown sources was also considered. The complete case file, comprising nine pages as held by the National Archives, is reproduced below.
