Summary

On February 27, 1961, two civilians in San Bernardino, California, reported a round, white object in the morning. It was seen for about 20 minutes while they were watching a commercial Boeing 707. The object was the size of a pinhead held at arm's length.

The object appeared and disappeared at about a 60 degree angle above the northern horizon. It showed only small movements and stayed in essentially one position. No color other than white, no trail, and no sound were reported. The observers simply stopped watching it.

The Air Force checked weather data and balloon launches in the area. At least three balloons were launched during the morning before the sighting. The card states that both the observer and the reporting officer believed the object was a weather balloon, and one of the balloons was possibly in the position reported. A follow up message recommended the case be considered closed as a balloon.
