On August 16, 1958, a witness at Roswell, New Mexico, reported an unidentified flying object at 0547Z (about night). The observer, described as a chief, saw a bright, intense flash of light, yellow to orange in color, with a long tail giving off sparks as it flashed across the sky. The shape and size were not discernible. The object's path was high at about 80 degrees true west from Roswell. The sighting lasted about 9 seconds.

Skies were clear. The report came from Walker Air Force Base.
