Summary

On September 28, 1960, two civilian city police officers in Roswell, New Mexico, reported an object at 1025 (about 5:15 a.m. local), at night. Driving east on East 3rd Street, they saw through the windshield a round object the size of the bottom of a coke bottle, vivid green with an orange tail. It first appeared about 25 degrees above the horizon to the east, then dropped below the tree line along the city street. The object was visible for an estimated 3 to 4 seconds. The sky was clear with unlimited visibility. The officers' reliability was considered above average. The Air Force listed the case as a meteor, noting the description and duration were typical of a meteor and that it correlated with a meteor sighting at Wichita Falls, Texas, at the same time.
