Project Blue Book Case File
Redwing, WisconsinNovember 1952
Summary
# Redwing, Wisconsin, November 1952
In November 1952, a civilian observer in Redwing, Wisconsin reported seeing an unidentified flying object that flashed and disappeared repeatedly over a period of about twenty to thirty minutes. According to the observer's account recorded by the Air Force, the object was visible to the naked eye and displayed unusual behavior including sudden appearances and disappearances. The observation took place around 2200 hours (10:00 p.m.) on November 21, 1952.
The Air Force initially noted that the blinking pattern and extended observation time were characteristic of a star. However, the case file also documents separate sightings from other locations during the same period. These included reports from Fort Benning, Georgia, where five witnesses observed a blue-white object that changed to dull orange, turned to various compass headings, and held a course until disappearing. Another sighting was made near Aiken County, South Carolina, where two workers at an Atomic Energy Commission installation reported seeing a glaring red fireball that moved fast and faded from sight to the southeast, lasting approximately thirty seconds.
The Air Force classified the Redwing sighting itself as unidentified. The case file is sparse on analytical detail, and OCR degradation in several pages limits what can be extracted about the full investigation. The file also includes a newspaper clipping about German aeronautical research into a "flying saucer" design, though its connection to these sightings is unclear.
The full case file is reproduced below as held by the National Archives, spanning 17 pages.
