Insufficient Data

Summary

In September 1962, campers near Priest Lake, Idaho found an object on the ground that they believed had fallen from the sky. The object was roughly three and three-quarter inches long, two and a half inches wide, and half an inch thick. The campers said it was not in the location the night before but was present the next morning. They assumed it had struck the ground with considerable force, based on an indentation in the earth. They also reported that the object was hot enough to char trees that were wet.

The Air Force assigned the object the number 3-147 and sent it to the Aeronautical Systems Division for analysis. The laboratory found that the object was of earthly origin and was a common type of cinder rock with a high carbon content. The file does not state what conclusion the Air Force reached about whether the object fell from the sky or arrived at the location by other means.
