Summary

On August 12, 1962, at about 10:00 p.m., a civilian in Portland, Oregon, saw objects in the night sky. The witness said the sighting actually took place in San Jose, California. The objects were in sight for about 3 seconds.

The witness described gold-colored objects moving north to south in a V shape, like a flock of ducks, with about eight dots on each side. They moved overhead at an estimated 500 to 600 mph. The objects veered sharply at right angles and disappeared. There were no clouds and a full moon. No sound was reported.

The report was filed under Project 10073, the Air Force's official record for unidentified flying object reports. The witness sent the report in January 1963, about five months after the sighting. The Air Force noted there was no real indication of distance and that the report was too old to investigate. The case was listed as an unreliable report.
