Project Blue Book Case File
Pittsburgh, PennsylvaniaJuly 1955
Summary
On July 23, 1955, in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, a civilian ground observer reported one round, light-colored object. The Air Force recorded the report under Project 10073, its official record for unidentified flying object reports.
The object's size was unknown. It appeared to be at an altitude of about 200 feet. It was stationary and was still in view when the report was made.
The Air Force noted the description suggested a star or planet, but said no firm evaluation could be made without the original case file. Another card raised the possibility of a balloon, noting that the object appeared close and that weather balloons were often launched in the hour before the sighting. Officials suggested the observer probably saw a balloon.
