Summary

On February 1, 1953, two Air Force pilots on a practice bombing run sighted an unidentified object near Pittsburg and Stockton, California. The pilots observed a bright light with a landing light on it. The object appeared large, bright yellow, and definitely not similar to any known aircraft. A second bright light approached the observers' aircraft from a northerly direction. The objects came within close proximity and accelerated rapidly to a high altitude at an angle of 30 degrees. Investigators checked for balloon launches and aircraft in the area with negative results. Both observers stated they had considerable flying experience. The Air Force concluded the sighting as unidentified, with no case in file.

11. BRIEF SUMMARY AND ANALYSIS
1. U-2 pilots on practice bombing run sighted what they believed to be a plane with landing light. Obj appeared large, bright yellow, and definitely not similar to any a/c.
2. Bright light approached observers' a/c from a N direction on a collision course appeared imminent. Obj turned E and accelerated rapidly to a high alt by climbing at an angle of 30 deg.

COMMENTS: Check for balloon launches and a/c in area was made, negative results. Observers stated that obj was not a planet or astro body. Both observers have had considerable flying experience.
