Summary
On July 26, 1955, the pilot of a B-47 reported one round, white object while over Kansas City, Kansas. This was a military air-visual sighting. The Air Force recorded the report under Project 10073, its official record for unidentified flying object reports.
The object was round and white and left no contrails or exhaust. The pilot reported his own altitude at 36,000 feet and said the object was about 34,000 feet above him, near 66,000 feet. He estimated its speed at about 1,300 knots on a course opposite his own, heading southwest. He had visual contact for about one minute. Light conditions were excellent.
Ground radar at the reporting station could not pick up the object. The Air Force sent a form to the pilot for more detail and checked for balloon activity and winds. One card noted a possible balloon. No single firm conclusion is recorded.
