Summary

On April 16, 1960, two civilians saw a group of objects in the sky over Olean, New York. The time was about 11:20 p.m. One witness was a civil defense director and the other was a machinist.

The men reported between 20 and 30 small circular objects. They compared the sizes to half dollars, dimes, and nickels. The objects were dull gray and very close together. With the naked eye they looked like one large mass, but through binoculars the separate objects could be seen. The group moved at a very high rate of speed toward the northwest. The witnesses heard no sound and saw no trail. They watched for about 10 to 15 seconds.

This report was filed under Project 10073, the Air Force's official record for unidentified flying object reports. The Air Force concluded the sighting was probably a group of waterfowl heading north to their summer breeding grounds.
