Summary

On September 28, 1956, a resident of Oklahoma City reported seeing a round or oval object that appeared white or luminous yellow in color. The object was spotted in the southwest, traveling in an ascending course toward the west, and left a tail behind as it moved.

The reporting officer who filed the initial account concluded that the object was definitely a weather balloon. However, the Air Force investigators who reviewed the case disagreed with this assessment. They noted that the report did not contain enough evidence to fully support the officer's balloon conclusion. As a result, the Air Force rated the sighting as "probably balloon" rather than a definite identification, leaving some uncertainty about what was actually observed.
