Summary

On May 29, 1956, in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, a civilian reported one object. It was a ground visual sighting. The report came in by letter on June 5, 1956. The object was watched for two hours and five minutes.

The object was round and about the size of a match head held at arm's length. It was silver in color. It was first seen at about 30 degrees elevation in the south. It passed overhead heading north, then faded away in the north at about 30 degrees elevation. The object made no erratic or fast moves. Aircraft were scrambled with negative results.

The Air Force noted the duration, the course, the description, and the winds aloft, which were 200 degrees at 25 knots. The Project 10073 record card, the official record for unidentified flying object reports, concluded the sighting was probably caused by a balloon. The case file also held an unrelated foreign press report.
