Summary
On April 28, 1958, just north of Lowry Air Force Base, Colorado, a civilian reported a single object in the daytime sky. The sighting lasted about 10 to 15 minutes. The object was saucer-shaped with a slight hump in the top center, about the size of a silver dollar held up, and silver in color. The witness, an aircraft maintenance inspector, saw it through binoculars while three Navy jets were on a practice approach to the base. The object climbed gradually, then climbed straight up or away until it went out of sight. The report was filed under Project 10073, the Air Force's official record for unidentified flying object reports. The Air Force noted an official high-altitude balloon chart showed a balloon in the area. It concluded the object was possibly a weather balloon released northwest of the area and traveling at high altitude toward the southeast.
