Lowry AFB, ColoradoJuly 1954
Summary
On July 9, 1954, military and civilian witnesses near Lowry Air Force Base in Denver, Colorado, reported shining specks high in the sky. The sighting lasted about 35 minutes. Witnesses saw 4 or 5 shining objects that appeared triangular and seemed able to hover in place, then move off.
The witnesses included Air Force flight service officers and civilian United Air Lines flight dispatchers. They had been watching a B-36 type aircraft making passes over the area at about 30,000 feet when they noticed the objects. One report estimated the objects very high and moving northeast.
Investigators noted that an exercise called Operation Check Point was being held in the area, with B-36 aircraft involved. The Air Force record card said the report sounded like a cluster balloon observation and listed it as insufficient data for evaluation.
