Project Blue Book Case File
Mt Laguna, californiaDecember 1955
Summary
On December 17, 1955, an unusual high speed track appeared on ground radar at Mount Laguna, California. The local time was about 0945 (9:45 a.m.). The observers were USAF radar operators, and the report was made by military personnel.
Three operators saw the track on an AN/FPS-3 radar set. They reported no internal interference on the equipment at the time. The track came inbound from one radio area, checked at a point north of another, then turned outbound. Its estimated speed was about 3,000 knots, but the speed calculated from the full track path was about 1,415 knots. The crew watched the track for about 13 minutes until it passed out of radar range.
The operators thought the track might have been a test aircraft, but a nearby base could not confirm any of its aircraft in the area. The crew said the track did not match any interference they had seen before.
The case is filed under Project 10073, the Air Force's official record for unidentified flying object reports. The record card noted it as a possible test vehicle.
