Summary
On May 4, 1961, a pilot reported an object over the Meridian to Jackson, Mississippi area. The sighting was made by air visual observation around 7:40 a.m. (GMT). The object was seen at about 32 degrees elevation in the north, then disappeared on a heading of about 080 to 035 degrees toward the horizon. No duration was given.
The object was about as bright as a star between 2nd and 3rd magnitude. The pilot reported that he had previously observed a satellite and considered this to be one as well.
The Air Force concluded the object was considered a satellite.
