Summary

On June 1, 1954, at about 4:30 a.m. local time in Mississippi City, Mississippi, six civilians reported one object for about two minutes. It was round, the size of a baseball, and reddish-yellow, turning green at times. Two red balls fell from the large light after the object passed to the east. The object was first seen at 200 degrees azimuth and disappeared at 95 degrees azimuth after about two minutes of level flight. Air Force analysts said it was possibly a flare from an aircraft on a training mission. The official conclusion was aircraft, with a possible flare noted.
