Summary

On March 10, 1955, near Mattawamkeag, Maine, a very bright falling object was reported. It was seen by a commercial pilot and by a ground observer for about three to four seconds. The ground observer said the object was red, yellow, and green, and it fell toward the horizon.

There was no known aircraft activity in the area at that time.

Because the first report arrived about ten days late, no follow-up investigation was ordered. The Air Force said the details matched an astronomical event and listed the case as probably astronomical, a meteor.
