Project Blue Book Case File
Larson AFB, Washington; City of Moses Lake, Wash, May 1954May 1954
Summary
On May 30 and 31, 1954, near Larson Air Force Base and the city of Moses Lake, Washington, several witnesses, including military personnel and a civilian, reported objects at night. Reports described a short, very bright, cigar-shaped object like a jet exhaust but many times brighter, intense white turning to red before it vanished. One witness saw a pin-wheel shape, and another, with his wife, saw a large meteor with a red flame that made a climbing right turn before disappearing. Each lasted a few seconds. No sound was heard, and radar found nothing. An electrical storm was reported 50 miles to the southeast. The Air Force conclusion was probably astronomical, a meteor.
