Summary
On January 16, 1953, at about 6:30 a.m., a U.S. Navy yeoman saw an object while driving on a highway near Honolulu, Hawaii. The witness was a Yeoman Third Class assigned to Pearl Harbor.
The object was bright and highly illuminated, and appeared round. It moved at a high rate of speed over the Pearl Harbor area for about three minutes. It traveled in a north-south direction in a straight line, then made a 45-degree turn and moved out of sight to the west.
The witness could not determine the object's size, speed, or altitude. Aside from the bright light, the object had no unusual or aerodynamic features. There were no sounds, trails, or smoke. The observation was made with the naked eye from a moving car.
A check found no weather balloons were released at the time. Base operations reported a C-47 had departed nearby at about 5:20 a.m. and a B-34 had landed about 6:40 a.m. The record card lists the conclusion as probably aircraft.
