Summary

On December 31, 1956, an Air Force interceptor pilot near Guam reported one object during flight. The case was logged under Project 10073, the Air Force's official record for unidentified flying object reports. The pilot, flying an F-86-D, described a white, round object the size of a dime with blinking white lights.

The object passed under the pilot's aircraft. It came in from the west, went south, then came back over the pilot. The pilot could not gain on it or intercept it. The object turned west, returned, and circled the fighter as it headed west. The pilot broke off because of low fuel. The whole event lasted about ten minutes.

The card noted the maneuvers strongly suggested an aircraft. But given the pilot's stated reliability and his statement that no aircraft were in the area, and that air traffic over a small Pacific island would be easy to see, the case was carried as unidentified pending more information. A later message could give no added data.
