Project Blue Book Case File
Gresham, OregonSeptember 1957
Summary
On September 18, 1957, a civilian in Gresham, Oregon reported seeing a round object about the size of an apple at arm's length. The object was white with red edges. The red would fade and brighten at intervals. The sighting lasted six to nine minutes. The object moved west. An Air Force map plot indicated the object was released at 9 p.m. at a weather station and would arrive in the area at approximately the time given, with winds matching the object's position. The investigation noted the sighting could be explained by a weather balloon or an astronomical body setting in the west, as an astro body setting would produce a similar effect. The data was inconclusive for analysis.
